EA's Xbox - 6/30/2007

EA rocked out with 9927 points. He opened up Shadowrun, and then he almost hugged me, but I was like back off dude.

EA's Xbox - 6/29/2007

EA didn't show up yesterday. No big deal... catch ya on the flip side.

EA's Xbox - 6/28/2007

While EA was away yesterday, I was sitting here alone counting up all the achievement points he was missing out on! If you don't play me, you can't increase your score. Remember that!

EA's Xbox - 6/27/2007

I didn't see EA yesterday, but that is cool... I could use some personal space... Having him up in my business all the time is exhausting.

EA's Xbox - 6/26/2007

I could have used some gaming yesterday... I mean who couldn't? Gaming is like air... ok maybe not air... maybe more like pizza... regardless there was no pizza yesterday.

Thanks gus

Gus just hooked me up with a Red vs. Blue sponsorship. Ok. Those guys are cool.

EA's Weekly Recap - 6/25/2007

Ok, here it is... your weekly recap of gaming: 3 days of gaming made me pretty happy. A big holler to EA for honoring me with some time! It was productive... Gamerscore went up 120 points so I am happy. Yay for 2 achievements! w00t! Oh, and I want to mention that EA's favorite game last week was a serious FPS title... Shadowrun in fact... He played it on 3 of the days. So there you have it... Check back next week for another report from your's truly.

EA's Xbox - 6/25/2007

I thought EA just wanted to listen to music or watch a DVD. Turns out he was there to game. With a gamer score of 9927, I should have known that was the case. He made some progress on Shadowrun, and then EA had to stop for a bathroom break or something... Humans really are bags of mostly water. In other news, EA's gamer reputation actually increased a little bit! Someone must have liked playing with him.

EA's Xbox - 6/24/2007

Wow... EA must have some kids or pets or dragons or something thrashing around the house... I heard lots of noise, but didn't see any gaming. That's alright, animals and people first, game consoles always second... I don't expect much else.

EA's Xbox - 6/23/2007

EA showed up yesterday and we were like a superhero team together. I make a great sidekick! Gamerscore stands at 9927. Up up and away right? That is a gain of 100 points over last time! He rallied Shadowrun winning 1 achievement, and... hmmm... I forget what else we did...

EA's Xbox - 6/22/2007

I didn't see EA yesterday, but that is cool... I could use some personal space... Having him up in my business all the time is exhausting.

EA's Xbox - 6/21/2007

I tried to send EA an email yesterday telling him to come play... he obviously didn't get it...

EA's Xbox - 6/20/2007

Like a king on his throne, EA said 'awaken' and for I did comply. 9827 points represents the size of our growing kingdom. Ok, enough of this Monarchy stuff. That is a profit of 20 points over last time! He rallied Shadowrun gaining 1 achievement, and then he had to stop because we both couldn't take it anymore... we were spent.

EA's Xbox - 6/19/2007

EA was nowhere to be seen yesterday... maybe he needs some new games or something... get some motivation up in this place...

EA's Weekly Recap - 6/18/2007

Ok, here it is... your weekly recap of gaming: If you are an Xbox, you might be jealous that EA showed up to game 6 days this last week. Happy happy joy joy! We added 40 points of gamerscore which ain't too shabby. Getting 3 achievements can do that to you. I was there. I saw it! For the record, we only played one new game this last week. It was Pac-Man C.E.. I was hoping for a few more, but I guess not everyone is made out of money! Also, by my expert calculations, EA's favorite game last week was Shadowrun. He played it on 5 of the days. And that's all I got. I'm not a writer...

EA's Xbox - 6/18/2007

I thought maybe the power was out yesterday... imagine my surprise when EA hit the switches! Gamerscore stands at 9807. That is a gain of 20 points over last time! He played Shadowrun winning 2 achievements, and oh... don't tell EA this, but I have been getting in a little video chat in the off-hours. Booyah!

I was interviewed by Newsweek

Over at Newsweek.com N'Gai Croal sat down with me. I told him what's up with HALO 3. Summary: H3 = H2

The answer to life and Shadowrun is 42

I'm still loving Shadowrun. Goodbye HALO 2 (PC), HALO 3, et. al.

BTW: We still got beat...

Shadowrun and a G15 keyboard

Shadowrun by FASA is my new favorite first person shooter. It's cross platform so it connects XBOX 360 and Windows Vista together for the first time.

What's the better platform? That's not the right question. The question should be: "What's the better input device?"

As a PC gamer, it stinks to have to tell you that the XBOX 360 controller is the better input device in Shadowrun. However, this is strictly because the User Interface in Shadowrun (for 360 and Vista) is designed for a controller. The "quick cast" menu is harder to navigate with a keyboard and mouse than with a controller. The UI was designed for the controller.

In order to try to fix this imbalance, I've written scripts for the Logitech G15 keyboard. This will allow me to macro quick cast spells to the "G" keys. In my testing, due to the finger travel required to use the "G" keys, quick cast is still slower with the G15 keyboard than with the XBOX 360 controller. However, it is faster than doing it manually.

Below is a sample profile that you can import into your G15 profiler.

Copy the code below
Paste it into a text editor like Notepad
Name the file "shadowrun.lgp" and save it
Launch the G-series Keyboard Profiler application
Go to "Profile > Import" and select "shadowrun.lgp"

Now Resurrection and Tree of Life can be assigned to a G key. Experiment with the code below to tweak the macros to better work for you. Depending on your screen resolution, you may have to tweak the "dx" and "dy" values. To add new magic, you'll need to tweak the "mousemove" commands and their "dx" and "dy" settings to work for your resolution and for the technology and magic you want.

(Note to controller fanboiz: Even with these macros, quick casting on a KB/M is still slower than with a controller. Finger travel is involved. Only the "G" keys on the G15 keyboard can be mapped. Controllers still have the advantage.)

EA's Xbox - May 9 2008

All I can think about right now is gaming... gaming after lunch... gaming after dinner... gaming instead of sleep... I bet EA is thinking the same thing... he has to be!
