EA's Xbox - 6/7/2006

Yesterday, EA decided to spend his time elsewhere... machines don't feel lonely... really we don't...

EA's Xbox - 06/06/06

These three chips in my head are getting hungry for gaming... feed me EA, feed me!

EA's Xbox - 06/05/06

Well, I didn't get to game yesterday, but at least I am not sitting in a Microsoft repair shop... So that is something...

EA's Xbox - 06/04/06

I tried to send EA an email yesterday telling him to come play... he obviously didn't get it...

MLG, XBOX 360 and Input Devices

When it comes to competitive console gaming, Major League Gaming is the leader of the pack. They are rapidly catching up to the popularity of high-dollar PC-based gaming tournaments like the Global Gaming League and the Cyberathlete Professional League. Some might say that they already have. Just last week they signed team Final Boss to a 3-year $1,000,000 contract and another player to a $250K 3-year contract. Such moves are shaking the esports (or competitive activities) world. This has to be a relief to gamers out there hoping to someday make substantial cash while playing games.

MLG is a console-only league. You won’t see a PC-based tournament at an MLG event. It’s against their philosophy. You’ll only see XBOX, PS2 or Gamecube consoles in the mix playing games like HALO, Gran Turismo, and Super Smash Brothers. (You also will not see an XBOX 360, Mircosoft’s latest and greatest in gaming and entertainment, event at MLG event.)

Competitive video gaming news

Major League Gaming signed 5 players to 3-year $250K contracts. That averages out to near $83K per year for each player for 36 months. These players basically become salaried employees of MLG with responsibilities other than gaming, like press and media events. (source)

DirecTV will broadcast 2006 Cyberathlete Professional League events. This is major news as the leading digital television provider is showing interest in beaming these events to viewers around the world. Look for the Winter CPL event to be shown in late December 2006. (source) Console gamers are starting to use "the claw", a way of holding an XBOX controller.

The claw is a way to use 3 fingers on one hand to input commands on a controller. It appears to me that this is a sign that console gamers want more input options. I think it's a matter of time before we see console gamers using keyboards and mice as input devices. More of that later. (source)

How to get a DS Lite before June 11

DS Lites have been in the stockrooms of your local electronics stores for about 2 weeks. Targets, Wal-Marts, and other stores sold the devices before the not-so-strickly-imposed launch data of June 11.

Nintendo made a few calls and put a stop to those stores selling the DS Lites. The stores that sell the DS Lites early can get charged mega-fees for each DS Lite sold before the street date. So, the stores implemented their own systems to prevent the DS Lites from being sold before June 11.

Leave it up to the hungry DS Lite fans around the web to figure out how to break these systems. Continue reading...

A Guide to DS Lite Accessories

I've got a few more days until my Nintendo DS Lite preorder gets to EB Games. [Actually, I think they've HAD my DS Lite for over a week now - they just can't break the street date.] Other than the New Super Mario Brothers, which is the sole reason I'm buying a DS Lite, I don't know what accessories to buy.

Luckly, someone has taken the time to show me exactly what I need. Check out this Flash document showing off some neat games and accessories for all you new DS Lite owners: http://4cr.earthdies.com/guides/4cr_dslite_buyers_guide.html

I was one of the best Halo PC players in the world competing at Cyberathlete Professional and Cyberathlete Amateur level as well as other venues.
I hosted the first public Halo Custom Edition server on the internet.
I am a member of the Hushed Casket, my Huntsville-based gaming community.
We LAN H1 on XBOX regularly.
I'd rather play H1 than H2.
I was at the top of the H2 leader boards after its release.
I started the THX network in 2003.
THX has gotten exposure through the New York Times, Digg, Wired, Kotaku, etc.
I helped synide start haloTV.
We were the first to broadcast a HALO match live over the internet.
I started Halo2PC.org to blog about HALO 2 for Vista.
I need to give that website more attention. (wait for it)

I helped them setup their popular HBO-COERCE server.
I'm the godfather of haloportable.com.
Mintz owes me a lot.
I got a mention in the game manual of Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30.
I'd rather play with a keyboard and mouse than with a controller.
It's about input devices, people. It's not about consoles and PC's.
That said, I game on an Alienware Area 51.
I have been invited to beta test HALO 3.
I like to kneeboard.
I like to snow ski.
I'm on MySpace

I'm rebuilding an Alienware Area 51 ALX.
I'm holding out for the new ATI DX10 cards.
And the April price cuts on Intel processors.
Got an E6600, then it fried. Had to get an E6400.
Not happy about that.
Got an GeForce 8800 GTX.
Very happy with that.
My Alienware Aurora ALX is built just in time for Shadowrun and HALO 2 (PC).
Some of my writings have been mentioned/link to on Penny Arcade, IGN, Kotaku, Joystiq, Newsweek, ...
